Rutin
Quercetin 3-O-rutinoside
Rutin is a flavonol glycoside composed of quercetin bound to the disaccharide rutinose. It occurs naturally in buckwheat, citrus fruits, apples, and tea. Rutin demonstrates potent antioxidant activity by scavenging free radicals, supports vascular integrity through capillary stabilization, and exhibits anti-inflammatory effects via inhibition of enzymes such as lipoxygenase. It is commonly used in dietary supplements for venous insufficiency and as a food additive. Chemically stable under normal conditions but decomposes at high temperatures. Poor aqueous solubility limits bioavailability, often addressed via formulation strategies.
